How can a family intervene to help an obese child lose weight?

Start with theses 3 steps:

  1.   View obesity as a family problem instead of focusing on the individual child.  The last thing you want is for that child to become self-conscious about eating and stop all together!
  2.   Cook more meals at home and avoid fast food.  Get the family involved in the menu planning, grocery shopping and cooking process. 
  3. Make time for physical activity.  If you can keep your child from becoming an obese adult, you are setting him or her up for a healthier future!  

DID YOU KNOW…children who are obese-defined as a body mass index greater than the 95th percentile for age and sex-by early adolescence have a greater risk of becoming obese adults and suffering from numerous illnesses (type 2 diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
