How can a family intervene to help an obese child lose weight?

Start with theses 3 steps:
- View obesity as a family problem instead of focusing on the individual child. The last thing you want is for that child to become self-conscious about eating and stop all together!
- Cook more meals at home and avoid fast food. Get the family involved in the menu planning, grocery shopping and cooking process.
- Make time for physical activity. If you can keep your child from becoming an obese adult, you are setting him or her up for a healthier future!
DID YOU KNOW…children who are obese-defined as a body mass index greater than the 95th percentile for age and sex-by early adolescence have a greater risk of becoming obese adults and suffering from numerous illnesses (type 2 diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
